The sun is sinking at McMurdo Station, heading toward the final sunset of the year, night falls upon the South Pole station, and Palmer Station prepares for a busy winter.

The Research Vessel Ice Breaker Nathaniel B. Palmer is currently on a transit cruise from the Ross Sea back to Punta Arenas, Chile, collecting multi-beam, gravity and magnetics data along the way. The Antarctic Research Support Vessel Laurence M. Gould just completed a personnel turnover at Palmer Station, and is currently at port in Punta Arenas, Chile.
